| Ski mountaineering: A high-pressure ridge had been well established for 3
weeks. Although it was very cold down in the valley, a temperature
inversion made this trip very enjoyable. I omitted to call Fab for this
outing. He said he wanted to come but after hearing he was out
late, I didn't bother ringing. It turns out he'd been waiting at the
door ready to go... Poor Fab... Val and I left early, the trail was
broken partway; it is a popular area for quick ski turns. From what I remember,
the ascent is straightforward; we left our skis before reaching the
summit. The descent was quick and beautiful weather prompted us to
skin-up for another run at treeline before dropping down into the frigid
air. |
